Antic’s People

 

The founders of Antic Wireless Technologies Inc. are Andrew Lea, Rodney Vaughan and Ron Vanderhelm.  Our team has experience in microwave electronics, antennas, DSP, and radio system design.  Antic is currently working with Simon Fraser University in development of its initial product offerings.

   

 

Andrew Lea

Andrew received the B.Sc. degree and the B.Eng. degree, with distinctions, from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He worked for Nortel Networks from 1999 to 2000 doing hardware design for high-speed digital communications systems.  From 2001 to 2002 Andrew worked for Futurecom Systems (Concord, Ontario) where the bulk of his work comprised designing RF amplifiers.  He received the M.A.Sc. degree from Simon Fraser University in 2007, where his research focused on compact antennas.  Following completion of his degree at SFU, Andrew worked with the Nokia Research Center.  He has published several papers in the area of antennas and propagation.  Andrew, as President of Antic Wireless Technologies Inc., fuses the science and technology of wireless for commercial application.

 

 

 

 

Rodney Vaughan

Since 2003, Rodney Vaughan has been a professor in Electrical Engineering and the Sierra Wireless Chair in Communications at the School of Engineering Science at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC.  He has B.E. and M.E. degrees from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and the Ph.D. degree from Aalborg University, Denmark.  Rodney worked for Telecom New Zealand and the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research where he worked on a wide range of mechanical and electrical projects.  These ranged from heating and ventilation to acoustic and audio signal processing, and from network traffic forecasting to microprocessor and DSP technology for abattoir and bread baking automation, scientific instruments, and communications systems.  At Industrial Research Limited he developed research programs and personnel in signal processing and wireless communications.  In addition to his industrial projects, his research includes topics in multipath propagation, signal theory and processing, implanted antennas, and compact multiport antennas.

 

 

 

Ron Vanderhelm

Ron, a product development veteran, brings over 30 years of experience in producing leading edge wireless products for markets worldwide.  Ron was a founding member of Sierra Wireless in 1993 and during his 12 years with the company, managed the company’s RF strategy and RF engineering specialists, most recently as Director of RF Engineering.  Before that, Ron was with Motorola Inc., Mobile Data Division (formerly MDI Mobile Data International) for 10 years, most recently as Principal Staff Engineer in the Advanced Product Group.  He also designed VHF/UHF mobile radio equipment from 1979 to 1983 with WR Communications.  Since 2005, Ron has been an independent consultant to small firms, most notably BluePulse Technologies Inc.  Ron holds a B.A.Sc. degree from the University of British Columbia as well as a Dipl.T. from the BC Institute of Technology.
